Vidshow submissions & show theme submissions are now open!

Submissions are now open for five FanWorks vidshows: Premieres, Variations: Past and Present, Year in Vids, Recap, and In the Aughts! (Full vidshow descriptions below.)

Vids can be submitted through the con dashboard on the "manage works" page when logged in.

Deadlines for vid submissions:

  • Non-Premiering Vidshows: Sunday, June 26th
  • Premiering Vidshows: Sunday, July 17th

Non-Premiering Vidshows

Deadline for non-premiering vids: Sunday, June 26th

Vids for these shows must be submitted by their vidders. The open submission shows for August 2022 are:

Year in Vids: Vids released between October 2022 and the submissions deadline. (Clarification: Any vids released since FanWorks 2021. Any vids in that time period are eligible, including vids that debuted at the FanWorks Minicon in April 2022.)

Recap: Any vid from a FanWorks virtual con Premieres show. (That includes FanWorks 2020, 2021, and April 2022.) There are a lot of vids we missed on the big screen over the last few years! It's time for some of our virtual vids to have a moment to shine in the vidshow room.

In the Aughts: Vids released in the decade of the 2000s (2000 – 2009). These vids are (at minimum) teenagers now. What kinds of vids were you making in the aughts? Which fandoms did you love? Make sure to note the year of release in your vid blurb.

Premiering Shows

Deadline for premiering vids: Sunday, July 17th

These shows take premieres only. A vid counts as previously released if it has been published or openly shared on any platform, or shown at any con. (Your betas/cheerleaders don't count! Please do privately share your vids with your betas/cheerleaders!)

Premieres:
Our main event for vids: a showcase of vids making their debut at FanWorks.

The Premieres show is the highlight of the video track at FanWorks, and the added interactivity of vidshows in the virtual con format has been an absolute delight at our con and others. (Attendees in Chicago will have the option to join the virtual vidshow chat, as one of our Premieres vidshow rooms will be screen-friendly!)

We strongly encourage you to submit a vid (or two!) to Premieres if you wish to do so, whether you're attending the con or not! Con premieres shows are great opportunities to show your work to a captive audience.

Variations: We're back in-person, and so is the Variations show! This is a premiering vidshow of vids made for a specific theme. The theme in 2019 was "Ignite."

The theme for 2022 is Past and Present.

There are lots of angles to take with this theme – the past coming back to haunt you, sources taking place in multiple time periods, the impact of history on the current day, flashbacks, time travel, reincarnation, ghosts, however you see fit to interpret it!

Vid Submission Guidelines & Info

Vidders can submit up to two vids per show (and can show up to three vids, if a third is submitted by a co-vidder). Vids must be your own work.

If you submit more than one vid, you'll be asked to mark your vids as first or second priority.

We guarantee that we will show every first priority vid submitted by an attending vidder, even if it makes the vidshow run long. (Chicago and virtual attendance are prioritized equally. As long as you are registered to attend the con in some capacity by the submission deadline, you'll be counted as attending.)

For premiering shows: If Premieres and/or Variations run long, second priority attending vids and any non-attending vids may be rolled over to a separate Also Premiering vidshow, to make their debut at a different time on the con schedule. If you send us a premiering vid, we'll make sure we show it at FanWorks! Just please be aware that your second priority or non-attending vid may debut in Also Premiering rather than the main shows if we run short on time.

For non-premiering shows: Second priority attending vids and first priority non-attending vids will be selected at the VJs' discretion to fill out the show if needed, typically chosen to help the flow of the vidshow, to even out the overall tone, to provide variety, and so on. Second priority non-attending vids will be shown if all other vids have already been included in the show and time allows. If shows run long, they may be broken up on the schedule rather than run in a single block. If submissions are particularly high, some parts of a vidshow may be virtual-only.

Programming submissions are open for themed vidshows!

Deadline for themed show submissions: Sunday, June 12th

Themed Vidshows

Themed vidshows are curated by VJs, with vids chosen to fit a specific theme. Past themed shows have included "Foe Yay!", "Divine Intervention," "Queer Found Families," shows about multifandom vids, video game vids, fan-made credits, animatics – themes vary widely!

If you are interested in submitting a topic for a themed show, you can submit themed shows here. Submissions close at 11:59pm Eastern on Sunday, June 12th.
