The minicon is almost here! Saturday, April 9th is the FanWorks minicon, our fundraising event for the August con. You can still register for the FanWorks minicon; registration will remain open throughout the fundraiser weekend.
The minicon Discord opens at 7PM EDT on Friday, April 8th. If you're registered to attend, your Discord invite will be on the FanWorks dashboard when you're logged in.
(If you don't get an invite, please let us know - the quickest way to reach us off-Discord during the con weekend is by DMing us on Twitter; you can also leave a screened comment here.)
Minicon programming begins Saturday morning at 11:00am EDT. The full weekend schedule is on the FanWorks website.
All panels and events will be held on Zoom; vidshow streams run off the FanWorks website, with live vidshow chats on Discord. Links to Zoom rooms and vidshow streams will be pinned in each corresponding channel on the con Discord and accessible via the FanWorks dashboard.
Saturday, April 9th:
11am | Welcome to the FanWorks minicon!
Moderator: Trelkez
Our minicon kick-off panel! Opening remarks and information about the weekend.
12pm | Trivia
Host: AbsoluteDestiny
Team-based fannish trivia, hosted by AbsoluteDestiny. Don't miss it!
1pm | Panel | Fannish Drift, Part 1: Moving On?
Moderator: Trelkez
So you have a new shiny. What about your old one? This panel will look at different modes of fannish drift: adding a new fandom but keeping the old, keeping an interest in a fandom but moving on creatively, moving on completely from one fandom to another (aka serial monofandom) – and what happens when the fandom itself moves on while you're still in full swing.
1pm | Vidshow | Made for Myself
VJ: Staff
Sometimes vids are made for an audience of one: the vidder. What's a vid you made just for yourself?
2pm | Panel | Fannish Drift, Part 2: Spring Cleaning
moderator: elipie
So you're moving on to a new fandom. What happens to the creative projects you have in progress? Do you prefer to formally let go of your wips when you lose interest in a fandom, or to leave them on the backburner indefinitely just in case you come back one day? How likely are you to finish an abandoned wip really?
(This panel will be followed by a Discord channel for sharing old wips. Join us for some wip spring cleaning!)
2pm | Vidshow | I Did It!!
VJ: Milly
A project you'd been working on for a while, a new technique you learned, a return from vidding hiatus, an idea you'd had for a long time and finally got around to - any vid that made you feel a sense of accomplishment!
3pm | Breakout Discussions
Grab a snack, a beverage, your cat – it's break time! If you want to have lunch / dinner / etc. with company, join us on Zoom, where you can pick a Zoom room by track (art, audio, community, vidding, or writing) and join a discussion about a specific fannish craft.
4pm | Panel | Pitch Session
Pitch your fandom to a captive audience! With a twist: your pitch has to be based on the fandom's current available works, not on the source material. Pitch us a fandom with a ton of fic, or just one really good one; pitch us a fandom full of great vids, or one that's just starting to be vidded now. A cool new (or old) show is great and all, but we want to know: what fandom should we be getting into for its fanworks?
You'll have five minutes (max) to pitch your fandom. A sign-up form will be linked off the panel's Discord channel, and will remain open until the start of the 3pm break (or until the panel fills, whichever comes first); any remaining time will be first come, first serve.
4pm | Vidshow | Spring
VJ: Staff
Spring is here! New beginnings, new hope, emergence, discovery, vids in bloom.
5pm | Panel | Break-out Discussions 2
The second of two Zoom break-out discussions, where you can choose your own break-out room to join a conversation based on one of our five tracks: art, audio, community, vidding, or writing!
If you like to vid and write, draw and record, etc., this is your chance to mix it up and join a couple of different craft conversations over the course of the day!
5pm | Vidshow | The One
VJ: Trelkez
If you could only watch one vid ever again, it would be _______.
7pm | Premieres Intro (Zoom)
Quick updates on the weekend, an introduction to Premieres, and the raffle drawing.
7:30pm | Premieres
VJs: Trelkez & sweetestdrain
A showcase of vids making their debut at the FanWorks minicon. There are 27 amazing vids in this show, never seen before online – don't miss it!
10pm | Pictionary
Host: elipie
Join us on Zoom for Fannish Pictionary, with your host elipie!
11pm | Zoom Social
Host: elipie
An open social on Zoom. Come hang out and chat with us!
