Reminder: FanWorks registration opens for attending members this Sunday, January 12th at 2:00PM Eastern!
The con website is now in FanWorks 2020 mode, with more updates to come! As you read through the website, you'll notice that some things have changed from last year's con. We've highlighted a few of those changes below:
*
The con space, activities track, and the con suite
We've made adjustments to programming and events based on feedback from the 2019 con, the December member survey, and the new con space.
For 2020, instead of each programming track having its own panel room, we're going to have two panel rooms. This will allow us to use the con space in different ways, including a much-requested con suite on the con floor.
The main rooms of this year's con will be:
Panel Room 1
Panel Room 2
Vidshow Room
Activities Room
Con Suite
The panels will still be chosen and coded by programming tracks (art, audio, community, writing, and video), and the vidshow room will still show a mix of themed and vidder-submitted shows.
Because of our move to the SpringHill, we are now able to offer a con suite in the main con space! We're still working out exactly what we'll be able to offer in terms of snacks and beverages, but at this point it looks like we'll have at least 2-liters of soda in the con suite.
Also new for 2020: an activities track! The activities track will include games (such as fannish pictionary) and productivity sprints (bring your laptop/tablet/yarn/etc. and write, vid, draw, knit, etc. in 40 minute sessions).
Other kinds of activities are being considered, including writing challenges and guided craft sessions. (These will depend largely on moderator availability; sign ups to run activity sessions will happen during the programming submission period in early spring.)
Friday dinner banquet & other catering
This year's catered meal will be a Friday evening dinner banquet. How many entree choices we can offer for the banquet will depend on registration totals, but there will be at least one vegetarian option and one chicken or beef option (with vegan meals available upon advanced request).
Entree choices will be selected via survey in spring. A full menu for the dinner banquet will be available by June.
A soda, beer, and wine bar will be available with a purchased wristband for two hours during the Friday dinner. (A full list of beers and wines is coming soon.) Please note that the Friday bar does not include liquor.
During Sparkle Motion, a bar with soda, beer, wine, and premium liquor will be available with a purchased wristband for three hours. Liquors include Grey Goose vodka, Bombay Sapphire gin, Makers Mark bourbon, Mount Gay Eclipse rum, Glenlivet 12 year scotch, Hurradura Resposado tequila, and Crown Royal whisky. A full beer and wine list is coming soon.
Bar wristbands can be purchased during registration.
There will also be spread of appetizers during Sparkle Motion. Any additional catering will depend on registration totals. (We may be able to offer one or more snack breaks, evening desserts, etc. depending on registration, but we can't guarantee that.)
Night Market vendor fee waived for 2020
We're waiving the Night Market vendor fee for 2020. If you want to try out being a vendor at the Night Market, this is a great year to do so! Vendor tables are available during registration. Space is limited, so if you want a vendor table, please don't wait too long to register.
(Please don't sign up for a table if you aren't committed to being a vendor!)
Call it a night a little earlier
All evening/night programming will end a little earlier this year. Some of this is down to an earlier cut-off time on the event space, and some of it is in response to feedback from last year. We hope that an earlier end time for events will allow for more socialization outside of con hours and/or earlier bedtimes, depending.
For this reason, Sparkle Motion will run three hours this year, from 8:00-11:00pm. We'll still have brightly lit and dimmer/quieter rooms to hang out in away from the dancefloor room; in the dancefloor room itself, we're hoping to have some upgrades over 2019, with a bigger dance floor and cooling fans.

A sample schedule for 2020 is available here. This is a sample only, meant to give an idea of what con programming will be like. It may not reflect actual schedule times and events.
