First up for the FanWorks April minicon: vidshows!

The minicon will feature a similar assortment of vidshows as the full con (just fewer of them!). The vidshows for April are:

Premieres

The April Premieres show will function just like any other: a vidshow of all-new vids making their debut to the minicon audience.

(Vids sent to this show must not have been released anywhere previously - at other cons, as online posts, or to any audience larger than your betas / cheerleaders.)

The turnaround time for April Premieres is relatively short, but we hope to have a fun assortment of vids! To give vidders as much time as possible, we're doing the deadline in stages:

Sunday, March 13, 11:59PM Eastern: The deadline for Premieres vids, or for full drafts of unfinished vids
Sunday, March 20, 11:59PM Eastern: The deadline for final versions of vids received as drafts on March 13th

That means that if your Premieres vid isn't finished by March 13th, but you have a full timeline (or very close to a full timeline), you can upload a draft as your vid file, making sure to put "DRAFT" in both the file name and your vid summary on the form. We'll be using vid files received on the 13th to VJ the show, so we need the vid to be complete enough to VJ with - meaning we need both a full timeline and relatively final clips at the beginning and end. If you aren't sure whether or not your draft is complete enough for VJs to work with, you're welcome to email us at fanworksvidtech@gmail.com and run it by us before submitting.

If you submit a draft on March 13th, you have until March 20th to finish it and get a final version uploaded. If we don't receive a final vid from you by the deadline on the 20th, we won't include your vid (we won't show drafts), so make sure to get your finished file to us on time!

Vidder-Submitted Shows

These are vidshows that vidders can submit their own work to. Vids in these shows will have been previously released (no premieres), and should fit the show's theme.

Sunday, March 6, 11:59PM Eastern: The deadline for vid submissions to vidder-submitted shows

The vidder-submitted shows for the April minicon are:

Made for Myself

Sometimes vids are made for an audience of one: the vidder. What's a vid you made just for yourself? Send it to the show, and let us know in the vid blurb what inspired you to make it!

I Did It!!

A project you'd been working on for a while, a new technique you learned, a return from vidding hiatus, an idea you'd had for a long time and finally got around to - any vid that made you feel a sense of accomplishment!

Themed Shows

Themed shows are curated by VJs on specific themes. For April, we have two themed shows curated by FanWorks staff:

The One

If you could only watch one vid ever again, it would be _______.

Whatever your answer to that is, suggest it for the show here! FanWorks staff will curate a vidshow from your suggestions.

(We're hoping to get this show in under 45 minutes, so we can't promise to include all suggestions - but if we get a ton of them, we'll see what we can do!)

Spring

Spring is here! (Or it will be, by Minicon weekend.) This is a curated vidshow of vids on spring themes: emerging from a long winter, new beginnings, new hope, vids in bloom.

If you have suggestions for this vidshow, please suggest them here!

Vid Submission Info

Vid submissions will open on Saturday, February 19th. Once submissions are open, you will be able to submit vids through the con dashboard.

The vid submission rules for the April minicon are the same as those for the regular con:

- A vidder can submit up to two vids, and can show up to three, if the third is submitted by a co-vidder.
- If vid submissions run long, vids by attending vidders will be prioritized; if a vidder submits more than one work, their vids will be prioritized as indicated on the submission forms (first / second / no preference).

We get asked almost every year whether or not vidders should submit more than one vid, if there's room in a show for multiples, etc.; with the minicon we're guessing submissions might be lower than at the full con, particularly given the deadlines aren't far away. If you want to submit more than one vid, please feel free!

We're guessing we'll have time for any Premieres that are sent, but if that proves wrong, we'll default back to our usual prioritization of vids (outlined above). For vidder-submitted shows, if we get a huge volume of submissions we're likely to try to cut them back to two hours this time around instead of running three-hour shows (like in 2020 and 2021), given that the minicon only has so many hours in its day.

If you have any questions about vid submissions, you can always email fanworksvidtech@gmail.com to talk to Milly, Jen, or Ian!
